The Mac mini G4 was Apple's initial foray into an inexpensive Mac, designed to compete with the lower-priced "Wintel" computers. While not a large success, it has found a number of uses in niche markets where a pint-sized Mac is very handy. Due to an exceedingly clever design, looking at the mini, or holding it in your hand, is a bit of a marvel when one considers it'll do all the computing stuff a much larger Mac will do.
The G4 minis have proven to be very popular in the aftermarket, mostly because Apple chose to integrate its graphic processor on the subsequent Intel Mac minis, meaning the G4 minis, with their separate video card, actually run most games and some apps better than the Intel Mac minis.
